During his bachelor and master studies in politics and law, Jan Töpfer gained his first professional experience at Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung and Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk.
Various internships, including with Burson-Marsteller and the European Movement, led the way to becoming a communications consultant. At Deekeling-Arndt-Advisors Jan Töpfer learned the consulting basics in the areas of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. He then moved to the globally active network agency Burson-Marsteller (now Burson Cohn & Wolfe). Since then, his clients have included international corporations as well as German medium-sized companies and fast-growing start-ups. The management of business relevant stakeholders from politics, society and media as well as the strategic positioning of companies are among his consulting focuses.
For Jan Töpfer, good consulting must not only provide valuable “out-of-the-box” input, but also maintain the client’s “license to operate” in critical phases. Consulting experience from different industries and with different challenges is just as important as a trusting client relationship based on an exchange of opinions and not only on approval.
